Johnnelle M. Ramsey

March 23, 1956 — October 14, 2018

AIKEN, SC - Allena Johnnelle Mabry Ramsey, 62, of Aiken, passed away on October 14, 2018 surrounded by family.  Rest peacefully, good and faithful servant.

Johnnelle was born in Abbeville, SC on March 23, 1956. She graduated as valedictorian of Abbeville High School then went on to graduate cum laude from the University of South Carolina as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Zeta.  She met and married her beloved husband Clay Ramsey while living in Charleston, where she worked as a nurse at MUSC.  Johnnelle’s pride and joy were her grandson, Henry (her “Buddy Boy”) and her sons, Matthew and Joseph. Everyone who knew Johnnelle admired her selflessness, her kindness, her humility, and her servant heart. She was a woman of great faith who proclaimed this in all she did for others. Her life was a beautiful example of Ephesians 4:32- “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

She was a faithful member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church, where she gracefully served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a youth group advisor, and in Presbyterian Women.  Johnnelle and her dearest friends joined each other religiously for weekly lunch bunches; she deeply valued these women and the fellowship and support they shared over many years.  One of Johnnelle’s proudest accomplishments was that her boys, despite their own best efforts, became Eagle Scouts.  Johnnelle served the Boy Scouts of America as a den leader, pack leader, and on the Boards of Review for Eagle Scouts.

Johnnelle is preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Evelyn Mabry.  She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Clay Ramsey of Aiken and her sons, Matthew (Sarah) of Columbia and Joseph of Aiken, and her first grandson, Henry.  She will also be remembered by her sisters, Becky and Mary Evelyn; her in-laws Jack and Linda, Brian (Kelly), David, Lynn (Vaughan), and Paul and her nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome visitors from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, October 17 at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home on Pine Log Road in Aiken.

Please join us in celebrating her life at 11:00am on Thursday, October 18 at South Aiken Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
