Joseph Allen Horne, Jr.

AIKEN, SC - Retired Air Force Major Joseph Allen Horne, Jr., 92, passed away on September 21, 2017. Born September 11, 1925, in Winston Salem, N.C., he was the son of Joseph A. Horne, Sr. and Margaret Speas Horne. Joe was a graduate of The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served for 25 years in The United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of major. After his Air Force retirement, he became a real estate broker and taught real estate courses for many years in Aiken, S.C. His love of life and people pervaded every aspect of his being.      Joe was predeceased by his son, Joseph Allen Horne, III (Chris) and is survived by children: Lee Horne Thomas (John), Annie Horne Collins, Margaret Horne Darr (Ken), Nancy Horne Barker (Norman) and Richard Caswell Horne, II. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Joe was close to many people in Aiken, especially Beth North, Doug McLean and Robbie Purvis. Many, many people touched him in ways that can’t be described – You know who you are – Thank You!!      Services will be held at 5 o’clock, Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Chapel at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home on Pine Log Road.
