AIKEN - The Reverend Dr. Joseph Clyde Weaver, 90, beloved husband of Louise Weaver, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018. He was born on Jan. 2, 1928 in Irwin, PA. Joe enjoyed family and friends, travel and learning, humor and zest for life. He projected a beautiful baritone voice which served him well in his vocation. He attained his pilot’s license at age 16 and joined the Coast Guard, serving in the North Atlantic. He met his wife Diane in St. Louis while on leave. Upon moving to Pittsburgh he became well established with Honeywell in a design and sales capacity. While visiting The National Cathedral in 1961 the Episcopal Church then became his spiritual family, receiving a call to the priesthood in 1963. Joe attended Kentucky Theological Seminary. As a seminarian, he was a hospital chaplain at The University of Kentucky Medical Center and also Eastern Kentucky Mental Hospital as well as Director of Youth at Christ Church Lexington. He became a priest in Dec. 1967, received his master's degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Dec. 1972, and doctorate from Walden University, in 1985. He was the vicar at St. George’s in West Jefferson, Pittsburgh, moved to Dunedin, FL in 1971 serving as assistant at Church of the Good Shepherd for 2 years. Joe was rector at St. Mark’s, Marco Island for 10 years, establishing a preschool and columbarium. Joe and Louise married in 1983. Joe served as rector at St. Andrew’s, Leonardtown, MD 1983-1991. Upon retiring he served as interim rector at St. Phillips, Brevard, NC and Church of Good Shepherd, Cashiers, NC. Joe moved to Viera, FL 2001 and became a supply priest. Upon moving to Aiken in 2007, he did occasional supply work at St. Augustine’s and St. Thaddeus, churches in Edgefield, Ridge Spring and Trenton until health issues intervened. He is survived by daughters, Lynda Jo Thompson, Judith Adams and granddaughter Elizabeth Castano (husband Jack Justice), stepsons, Robert Rusk (Ofer), Corey Rusk (Diane), Douglas Rusk (Christine) and step-grandchildren, David Rusk (Elise), Daniel Rusk (Danielle) Louis Rusk and Sarah Rusk. He was predeceased by his brother James and sister Martha Selchan. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland Building following the service.
