AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Judith Wilder Allen, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 27, 2018 at her residence.Born in Savannah, GA, Judy was a daughter of the late Lorenz Ellington and Elizabeth Murray Wilder. She spent her childhood in Beaufort and Ellenton, SC, leaving when the town was dissolved with the building of the “bomb plant” in 1951. Judy graduated from Columbia College, Class of 1956, majoring in English and Creative Writing; Who’s Who; Criterion Editor; SC Collegiate Press Association President. She wrote a play for her senior writing project that was performed on campus, The Dispossessed, which told the Town of Ellenton story. She moved to Aiken in 1968 where she and husband “Ab” were faithful members of St Thaddeus Episcopal Church. Judy was a member of the Order of The Daughters of the King. She served on the Altar Guild and accepted the position of co-chair in 2000 serving many years and hundreds of services, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. Judy worked at Lyon, Croft, Weeks Realtors as office manager and Agent in Charge. While always artistic, in her later years, Judy enjoyed her art classes and various painting projects. She also enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her various lunch groups. She is survived by her two sons, Clark (Tricey) Allen, Greenville, SC, Patrick (Gloria) Allen, Greenville, NC; four grandchildren, Maggie (Karsten) Delap, Wilder Allen, Jennifer Allen, Matthew Herring and her brother, Michael Miller of Walterboro, SC. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert Clark “Ab” Allen. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with The Rev. Grant Wiseman, The Rev. Joseph Whitehurst and Deacon Jane Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the family then receiving friends in the Stevenson-McClelland Building. The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregiver and friend Patty Stauff.
