AIKEN – Mrs. Juliana Duffield Graves, 97, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019. Mrs. Graves was born in Los Angeles, CA, a daughter of the late Harry W. and Effie Ingalls Duffield. She was a graduate of UCLA, and served in the US Navy where she met her husband, Roger Elson Graves. As a resident of Arlington, VA, she taught at Taylor Elementary for over 30 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Phi Lambda Theta Women In Education, the Women’s Club, and was a Charter member of the International Town and Country Club. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed golf, playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, and, most of all, loved her family. She is survived by her daughter, Claire G. (Jackie) Seawell, Aiken; grandchildren, Jay (Stephanie) Seawell, Daniel (Casey) Seawell, David (Ashley) Seawell, Julie (Brian) Allen; great grandchildren, Brooke (Tyler) Seawell Carter, Jackson Seawell, Lauren Seawell, Mary Margaret Seawell, Ellie Seawell, Caroline Seawell, Anna Allen, Wade Allen, Leah Allen, Annette Seawell, and Lee Seawell. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Graves was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Alan Graves. A prayer service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 in the St. Johns United Methodist Church Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Tim McClendon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St., NW., Aiken, SC 29801, or a charity of choice.
