KATHLEEN T. WALLIS, 75, beloved wife of Walter P. Kubilius, passed away after a six-month battle with cancer Saturday, September 21, 2024 at home with her loving husband by her side.
A native of Hagerstown, MD, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Orman and Teresa Rigley Wallis. She graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 1971, and worked at Johns Hopkins Medical School as a research technician studying tubulin. After marrying and moving to Aiken in 1992, Kathleen continued her career as a research technician at the Medical College of Georgia, studying heart development and cannabinoids, before retiring in 2010. Kathleen was active in the Catholic Church, participating in Adoration and the Catholic Women's Association. She was a member of the Aiken Gem Mineral and Fossil Society, serving as treasurer and show co-chair. She enjoyed baking (much to her husband's benefit) and gardening. Kathleen and Walt spent many hours together birdwatching, fossil collecting, traveling, and following Penn State football.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of 32 years, Walt, include her brothers Lee (Joan), Ralph (Bob), Rich (Edith), and Bob; her sister-in-law Kendall Shaler (Steve); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday October 17 from 6 until 8 o’clock, at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, with a prayer vigil at 7 o'clock.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Friday October 18 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Fairfield St. Inurnment will follow in the church’s columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to ACTS (actsofaiken.org) or to FOTAS (fotasaiken.org).
