Kathryn "Pat" Mays Sturkey, widow of Earl J. Sturkey, passed away after a brief illness, on April 30, 2024.

She was born in Aiken, SC, the daughter of Walter and Emily Mays. Pat attended Aiken County schools and Winthrop University. She graduated from the University of Georgia and received a Masters of Education from USCA. She taught school in Aiken County for many years.

She is survived by her sons Richard Cofer Jr. of Aiken, SC, Pete Cofer of Bradenton FL, Walter Cofer of Tallahassee, FL, and daughter Cathy Alexander of Aiken, SC, stepdaughter Sam Gordon of West Palm Beach, and Sandra Wilj Sturkey of Atlanta GA along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pat was a lifelong member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church and a member of the alter guild for 25 years.

Pat loved to travel, read, paint and play bridge. She traveled extensively in the US, Mexico, Canada, as well as, Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. She enjoyed her many friends as a member of the Town and Country Club, the Red Hat Society and a past president of the Country Gardner’s Club.

A memorial service will be held at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A private inurnment will be held before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials for Kathryn Mays Sturkey may be sent to Mead Hall Episcopal School, 619 Barnwell Ave., NW Aiken, SC 29801.
