Sylvia Kay King Baudendistel

     Sylvia “Kay” King Baudendistel, age 86, of Aiken , SC, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 30, 2023 after a long, well fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Harlan County, Kentucky, she was a literal “coal-minor’s daughter.” Kay graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a teaching certificate and received her Master’s in Childhood Education from the University of Dayton (Ohio).

     Kay taught elementary school in Miamisburg, OH, Anaco and Valencia Venezuela, and Xenia, OH from where she retired. She was active in her church, St. Augustine’s - Jamestown, OH), President of the Ohio Teachers’ Association for various terms, and a fiercely independent woman.

     After retirement, Kay moved to the Moors on Kentucky Lake (Benton, KY).

     She is preceded in death by her parents, Foyster and Judy (Logan) King and brother Ron King and survived by daughter, Teresa “Teri” Davis, Aiken, SC; son Stewart Moon (Dorothy), Wilmington, NC; grand-daughter, Alison Davis, Evans, GA; and three siblings, Joy Ebeling (Len), June Harris (Dan), and Jenny Sykes; and sister-in-law Faye Brown King.

     A Celebration of Life will held Saturday afternoon from 4 until 5 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
