AIKEN, SC – MARY KAY BRITT, 77, beloved wife of John Horace Britt, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 2, 2023 in her home.
Born in Shreveport, LA, Kay was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Virginia Odom Cline. She grew up in Haynesville, LA before moving to Lumberton, NC when she was 15 years old. She moved to Aiken in 1964 where she raised her family and worked for the SC Employment Security Commission. She retired as assistant manager. She was a member of Hillview Baptist Church. Kay loved playing bridge and card games in general. She was an avid sports fan and was a former member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 59 years, Horace, include three children, Angie Johns (Scott), Edgefield, Gina Wade (Craig), Warrenville, Tony Britt (Staci), Aiken; nine grandchildren, Derek Moore, Brittany Penczek, Todd Johns, Ashley Lawrence, Roseanna Kaed, Jonah Quarles, Shelbey Wade, Andrew Wade, Kaylyn Britt; eight great-grandchildren, Landon McReynolds, Rylan Moore, Will McReynolds, Kason Moore, Adam Kaed, Nadia Kaed, Forrest Wade, Patrick Wade. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her two sisters, Debbie Pritchard and Patricia Hodge.
The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, February 6th beginning at 1 o’clock at Hillview Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 o’clock with The Rev. Mike McAlpin officiating. Interment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Rob Hodge, Kevin Penczek, Murray Lewis, John Cumbee, Bobby Carpenter, Chris Pritchard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) or American Heart Association (heart.org).
