Aiken – Mr. Leonard Browder, 93, was born May 11, 1929, in Warrenville, SC, son of the late John Henry Browder and Lottie Moore Browder, and passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on September 21, 2022.
After working all through his teenage years, he graduated from Graniteville High School. He was awarded the William Gregg Scholarship for the University of South Carolina. He graduated Pharmacy School in 1952. He purchased Aiken Drug in 1957 and grew it into the largest independent pharmacy in the state of South Carolina.
He also owned multiple other successful businesses, Woodruff Drug Company, Lominicks Pharmacy, Family Pharmacy, Home Medical Equipment, among others. Leonard was definitely a kind and generous people person.
An Avid Gamecock his entire life, he was President of the USC Alumni Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Laure (Shawn) O’Connor, Aiken; his son, Leonard Thomas “Len” (Renee) Browder, Sr., Aiken; grandson, Thomas Browder, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 72 years, Frances Browder, a sister, Joyce Beck; and a brother, Gene Browder.
A special thanks to the many wonderful caregivers who so tenderly cared for Leonard, Frances and family over the last numbers of years.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating.
