It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lisa Sanderson, a woman of remarkable strength and spirit. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 9, 2024, at the age of 70. Lisa was a loving mother, a devoted friend, and a passionate equestrian whose legacy will live on through all who knew and loved her.
She instilled her passion for horses in her two daughters, Melissa and Lauren, as well as the estimated 5000 campers who attended Kingsbury Hill during her time as the owner and director.
Kingsbury Hill, located in Francestown New Hampshire, better known as “KH,” a girls summer riding camp, was a haven for horse crazy girls to gather. Lisa’s parents bought KH in 1967 and in 1993 she took over the role as director of the farm after her father Nathan H. Sanderson lll's passing.
Anyone who pulled up to Kingsbury Hill, was met with a perfectly manicured, organized, and peaceful barn, along with a warm smile and wave from Lisa. Behind the scenes Lisa worked tirelessly to keep the farm pristine and camp running smoothly. While her family and close friends helped with the farm work, KH would not have been what it became without her at the center carefully orchestrating every detail. In addition to running the girls summer camp she also hosted many USEA recognized equestrian competitions on the 150 acre facility.
Lisa navigated life with a unique blend of sass and kindness, always ready with a quick witted response or a gentle word of encouragement although sometimes you couldn’t tell the difference. When she retired from her riding career, she found a new passion in pickleball and easily formed new friendships and connections along the way.
Her kindness touched everybody she met, offering warmth, compassion without hesitation, wittiness and a smirk that could brighten dark days. She brought peace and light wherever she went, yet it was her unwavering stoicism that stood out the most, a quiet strength that guided her through life’s challenges with grace and dignity. She faced the world with a smile and resilience that inspired all that knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and indomitable spirit.
Lisa is survived by daughters Melissa Vaughn and Lauren Campbell, as well as her partner Bruce Richardson, ex husband Kenneth Campbell, and her beloved terriers Stella and Annie.
Service will be held October 5th 2024 in Aiken South Carolina. Further details will be posted on Lisa’s Social Media.
