AIKEN - Lois Faye Johnson Goodwin died on March 31, 2018, with the Blessed Assurance that a family reunion was waiting for her in Heaven. She was born on November 6, 1938 in Burke County, Georgia, one of eight children born to John and Mattie Lou Johnson. Waiting for her in Heaven are her mom and dad, and siblings Benjamin Rossale Johnson, Carroll (WC) Johnson, Margaret Herron, Vera Kelly, Iris Eubanks, Janice Johnson and Mary Johnson. While only a teenager, she met a young soldier, Haskell Goodwin, Sr., fell in love with him and eloped on April 9, 1956. She and Hack started with nothing but love for each other and trust in Jesus Christ. Together they raised four children, all still living in Aiken. Gary Goodwin (Wendy), Dale Goodwin (Phyllis), Haskell Goodwin, Jr. (Nancy) and Daphne Gibson (Mark). These children provided them with 6 grandchildren, Jim Goodwin (Kayla), Jason Goodwin (Brandi), Justin Goodwin, Casey Gibson (Amanda), Jesse Gibson and Hannah Lori Gibson, and 5 great-grandchildren, Brealyn, Sadie, Trevor, Cash and Kylie. When Hack got out of the Army, they came back to Aiken County and began a life in the country. Lois excelled at this, providing her family with fresh-made butter, canned vegetables and preserves, and some of the best biscuits you ever put in your mouth. She and Hack were faithful members of Piney Heights/Lakeside Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir with a beautiful alto voice. As her health declined, she wasn’t able to get out as much, but she would still roll into the kitchen so that anyone who came by wouldn’t leave hungry. While she was generous to everyone, her role as wife and mother was truly her calling. No matter what time Hack had to go to work, Lois always had his breakfast ready and when he came home, the supper was hot and delicious. She took care of Hack for almost 62 years, until her body just wouldn’t allow it anymore. For many years she was unable to walk, but now is walking on a street of gold. Once again, she is in a choir with family members and friends. Here she impacted so many lives, and now she is in the presence of the Lord. She will be missed, but only for a little while, because she was able to teach her children about Jesus and they too have that Blessed Assurance. A visitation with the family will be held at Shellhouse-Rivers funeral home on E. Pine Log Road in Aiken on Tuesday, April 3 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will also be at Shellhouse-Rivers on Wednesday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Gibson and Rev.
