AIKEN – Mrs. Louise Westermann Hyman, 98, widow of Durham Steele Hyman, died Monday, June 4th, 2018 at the home of her son in Aiken.
Born on July 29, 1919, Louise was the daughter of the late Martin Otto Westermann and Mary Alpha Pigg Westermann. She was born in Richmond, Virginia, where she lived until moving to Aiken in 1952. After graduating from Midlothian High School, Louise attended Smithdeal-Massey Business College. During World War II, she worked as a bookkeeper for a trucking firm while her husband served in the Pacific Theater. In Aiken, she first worked for Amoco Oil Company as a bookkeeper and then worked for many years in the office of Hutson-Etherredge Insurance until her retirement. Louise became a member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church shortly after moving to Aiken.
Survivors include her brother, Robert Westermann of Richmond, and her three sons, William Durham Hyman (Patti) of Toney, Alabama, Paul Martin Hyman (Mary) of Aiken, and David Vernon Hyman (Denise) of Aiken. Her adoring grandchildren are David Steven Hyman (Betsy) of Athens, Alabama, Stephanie Hyman Martin (Robert) of Greenville, South Carolina, Leigh Hyman Ryan (Tim) of Greer, South Carolina, Phillip Steele Hyman of Aiken, and Bradford Durham Hyman (Lauren) of Aiken. Louise had eight great-grandchildren who came to visit her regularly and loved to have breakfast at Grandma Weezy’s. They are Bo, Louise, John Durham, Wills, Jules, Blake, Logan, and Asa Caroline.
A graveside service will be conducted by Dr. Fred Andrea of Aiken’s First Baptist Church at Bethany Cemetery on Thursday at 4:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Brad Hyman, Phillip Hyman, David Hyman, Robert Martin, Tim Ryan, and Sam Galbreath from Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aiken’s First Baptist Church, PO Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29802.
