Lucy McDaniel Woodruff

LUCY McDANIEL WOODRUFF, 95, passed away on Friday, April 4th, 2025 while under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA. She had resided at Shadow Oaks in Aiken, SC for the last 7 ½ years where she received wonderful care and love under the direction of Lenzie Wilson and the caregivers there.

Lucy was raised in Tyronza, AR and attended Erskine College where she met her husband, Thomas Griffin Woodruff of Woodruff, SC. After he finished pharmacy school, they moved to Aiken, SC where Tom opened Woodruff Drug Store. She has lived in Aiken since then. She was a schoolteacher for a few years, but found her calling to be a wife, mother and homemaker. She especially loved being a grandmother.

Lucy was a longtime member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church and was active in her church and various committees until her health prevented her from serving. She also enjoyed traveling and reading.

Her greatest love was for her family and friends, and she will be remembered for the lives she touched. While we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she served faithfully.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Tom G. Woodruff, Sr., her parents, Lowry Harold and Willie Bell McDaniel, her brothers, John and Calvin McDaniel and her sister, Margie M. Whittle. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Woodruff Marsh and husband Don of Statesboro, GA; son, Tom Woodruff, Jr. of Aiken, SC; her two grandsons, Jeffrey Marsh (Breeze) and Adam Marsh (Amber) of Statesboro. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Maddux, Lennon, Asher, Ames and Dillon Marsh of Statesboro. She is also survived by a brother, Harold McDaniel of Houston, TX and her brother Calvin’s wife, Polly of Conroe, TX. Several nieces and nephews are also surviving.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, April 9th beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock with The Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will be that afternoon at 3 o’clock next to her husband in Old Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Woodruff, SC.
