AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Margaret “Peg” Johnson Blosser, 85, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Aiken Memory Care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in New Rochelle, NY, on May 20, 1938, to the family that founded and owned the Peck & Peck department store chain, Peg was a graduate of Ethel Walker School and Smith College. Married to Leonard W. “Bill” Johnson in 1965, Peg was a Navy spouse and homemaker, and the mother of three. Peg and Bill moved to Aiken in 1996 from Northern Virginia and moved to Woodside Plantation in 1997. Both avid golfers and fans of international travel, they resided in Woodside until Bill passed away in 2004; they had been married 39 years. In 2007, Peg married Denver G. Blosser, sharing their love of golf and travel; they moved from Woodside to Cumberland Village in 2022. Peg transferred to Aiken Memory Care in July 2023. Peg was known for her love of travel, golf, crossword puzzles, needlecrafts, and volunteer activities. She volunteered with Savannah River Cancer Foundation’s Tree of Hope; created Granny’s Attic in Woodside (a program that collected, stored, and loaned baby equipment to Woodside residents for visiting family); and organized and participated in countless Woodside golf events. She enjoyed participating in bridge and mahjong with friends, and was also well-known for her parties, especially her yearly Fourth of July party and Christmas Open House.
Peg is survived by her loving husband of almost 17 years, Denver G. Blosser; daughter Lynn Johnson of Charlotte, NC; daughter Kate Nicholson and her husband John, of Harrisburg, NC; son Matt Johnson of Chantilly, VA; granddaughters Maggie Johnson, Amanda Nicholson, and Hannah Nicholson; and grandson Andrew Johnson. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Aiken Memory Care for their exceptional and loving care. The family would greatly appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
