AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Bissell passed away on April 17, 2017 at her home in Aiken, S.C. Her husband, Harold A. “Bud” Bissell, preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Bissell, Kathy Bissell and Leslie Bissell; her three grandchildren, Chris (Betsey) Matthews, Scott (Michelle) Matthews, and Kate Matthews; one great-grandchild, Maggie Belle Matthews; and two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Helen Weaver and Mrs. Marilyn M Bissell. Marilyn was born September 29, 1927 to the late John Ernest and Blanche Romaine Weaver. She graduated from Jamestown High School and Grove City College. She enjoyed singing and performing with the drama department in high school and college. She returned to Jamestown after college and worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. She married in 1951 and raised her three daughters in Charlotte NC. There she was involved with many civic activities including Girl Scouts, the PTA, the church choir, and was active with the Mecklenburg County Republican Party. She began her long and varied political career in 1972 in the NC General Assembly where she served 4 terms for Mecklenburg County. In 1977, she began Law School at NC Central University and graduated in 1980 with a Juris Doctorate. She was admitted to the NC Bar and established a law practice in Charlotte. From 1980 to 1984 she served on the Mecklenburg County Commission. From 1984 until 1996 she served as a District Court Judge. She loved to remodel, rebuild, and restore old houses with her husband Bud, and continued this hobby all her life. She and Bud traveled North America in their motor home and traveled extensively worldwide. She loved her two cats Eve and Minnie who were her companions in widowhood.
