AIKEN, SC – MARTIN WILLIAM CHOVANEC, 59, beloved husband of Lindy Steadman Chovanec, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 at his residence.

Born at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, Marty was a son of the late David Arnold Chovanec, Sr. and Patricia Lucille Barton Chovanec Roesky.  He grew up in the Sacramento, California area and had a 24-year career in the U.S. Air Force and the SC Air National Guard.  Marty was a Machinist, Combat Engineer, and Iraqi War Veteran who was proud to serve his country.  Marty loved horsepower -- especially Dodge Power Wagons and motorcycles -- and working on engines from a very early age.  His true love was vintage English motorcycles, having owned 9 Norton motorcycles over the years and earning the nickname “Norton.”  In his younger years he loved dirt bikes and trail riding.  He loved fishing and cooking and had a quirky sense of humor, having the perfect movie quote or song lyric for most any occasion.  He had a diverse love of music, from Louis Armstrong, Dixieland Jazz, Frank Sinatra, Waylon and Willie, to David Bowie and The Who.  The youngest of six, he also had a great love for his family and was greatly loved in return.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Lindy, include a son, Vincent Chovanec, and his siblings, Michele Byers (Chuck DeKanter), Venice, Florida; David Chovanec, Jr. (Suzanne), Ringgold, Georgia; Phillip Chovanec (Tracey), Folsom, California; Linda Rohmer, Rancho Cordova, California; Theresa Rowley (Mark), Temecula, California; and multiple nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Raymond Roesky.

A very special and heartfelt thank you is expressed to Stephanie Redd, for taking such wonderful care of Marty.
