Maureen Wolf Zaniel, born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 73. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Evelyn Goss Wolf. Maureen moved to the Washington, DC area in 1978 to attend Georgetown Law, where she graduated with a JD in 1981. She dedicated over 30 years of her career as a lawyer for the Washington, DC government, working for the Office of the Attorney General.
Maureen was the loving mother of Abigail Kroll and her husband Adam. She was also a beloved Mimi to her grandchildren, Maya and Tessa Kroll.
Maureen is survived by her siblings: Diane Wolf, Jeff Wolf and his wife Vicki, Becky Geeting, Julie Ellis and her husband Mike, and Anne Wolf. She was predeceased by her brothers Alan Wolf and Roger Wolf.
Known for her sharp intellect, Maureen was a dedicated finisher of the Sunday crossword puzzle and once appeared on the game show "$20,000 Pyramid." She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, and cherished spending time with her family. Though she loved her adult life in DC, she was extremely proud of her southern roots.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Maureen’s memory to the Maryland Youth Ballet Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (PD), 926 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
Maureen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Sons of Israel Cemetery. A reception will be held at 1:00 PM at Woodside Country Club.
