LEESVILLE, SC - Mary Louise Byrley Berrie, 94, of Leesville, SC, slipped out of this life and into glory on June 13, 2023 surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law. She was the widow of Marvin Emiel Berrie, Sr., who died in 2007 shortly after they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Louise was born August 19, 1928, in Lexington, North Carolina, to the late James Franklin Byrley and Ella Everhart Byrley. Her son, Marvin Emiel Berrie, Jr. and sister, Ethel Morris Hill also preceded her in death.
Louise loved the Lord, and was a devout and faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Aiken, SC for 65 years, always happily serving in many capacities. She was a beautiful, gracious and soft-spoken lady that was loved by everyone who had the pleasure to know her.
When she was a teenager, her family moved to Newport News, Virginia. There she met the love of her life, Marvin Berrie from Aiken, SC, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They married at the First Baptist Church in Aiken and made Aiken their home for over 60 years. Louise was employed by Belk in downtown Aiken and Clearwater Finishing Plant. But her main career was loving and caring for her family. Following an illness in 2012, she moved to her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Graniteville, SC. Upon their work retirement, the three moved to their Lake Murray home in Leesville, SC. In her more recent years, she enjoyed going to church, family gatherings, volunteering for the Pineapple Festival, jigsaw puzzles and reading.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted daughter, Gwen Berrie Simpson and her husband, Bill, of Leesville, SC. Louise was Aunt to many favorite nieces and nephews and their families. Her family is forever indebted to her loving friends and faithful caregivers with Caris Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. Also surviving is her beloved Church family.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 16th at 11:00am in Aiken Memorial Gardens with Pastor John Reeder officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am until the service time. Honorary pallbearers will be William Berrie, Pat Dorr, Andy Dorr, Mike Fulmer, Barry Clayton and Patrick Simpson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 3100 Vaucluse Road, Aiken, SC.
