Mary Benton Hickman

Mary Benton Hickman, 74, made her entrance into heaven on December 30, 2020 after many health issues that placed her at Parrish Medical Center. 

     A native of Franklin, TN, Mrs. Hickman was the daughter of the late Edgar and Jane Coleman. Mary Benton graduated from Franklin High School, attended college at Middle Tennessee State University, and earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She married her high school classmate and friend, Jerry Hickman, in 1970. Due to his military service in the Navy and later employment with the Department of Energy, they lived in Bremerton, WA, Charleston, SC, and Aiken, SC.  Mary Benton had a love for children and taught elementary grades for over 30 years, mostly in the 3rd grade.  She moved to Titusville, FL to be closer to family, adoring her new granddaughter, Penelope.  She was a faithful member of the Titusville Church of Christ.

     Mrs. Hickman is survived by her two sons, David Hickman of Sanford, FL and Timothy Hickman of Aiken, SC, daughter, Amanda Childs (Christopher) of Titusville, FL, granddaughters, Kourey Hickman and Penelope Childs, and other grandchildren, Kassidy Wollert, Cason Childs (Michelle), Elexious Childs and Lillian Childs. Other survivors include her brother, John R. Coleman (Angela), sister-in-law, Gayle Hickman, brother-in-law, Michael Hickman, Sr. (Lillian), and mother-in-law, Sybil Hickman. 

     She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Jerry Hickman, brother-in-law, James Hickman, Jr. and father-in-law, James Hickman, Sr.

     The family will receive friends Friday evening, June 4^th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home

     A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, June 5^th at 2 o’cock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  Inurnment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
