Mary "Muffy" MacKenzie Seaton

WILLISTON – Mary “Muffy” MacKenzie Seaton born on March 8, 1949, Muffy passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025.

She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Doug Seaton III and son Jesse McKenzie Seaton (Jenny) and her grandson Tanner McKenzie Seaton. She is survived by her sister Sydney Phillip and half sisters Ellen Ryan and Tory Payne.

She attended Chapin School in New York, NY and Bennett College in Millbrook, NY.

She lived in Bluemont VA for many years before relocating to Williston SC in 2005 where she raised Tunis sheep and her beloved ponies. A lifelong horsewoman, Muffy never met a pony of horse that she didn’t fall instantly in love with.

She started her equestrian life on Long Island where she trained at Piping Rock Stables with Mike McDermott.

She lived briefly in Mill Valley, CA where she trained under Jimmy Williams in Hunters and Jumpers. She Completed throughout the State of California for several years before moving back east.

She was introduced to Combined Driving over 40 years ago in Europe and quickly became a force to be reckoned with. During her more than 40 years of driving, Muffy won 4 USEF National Combined Driving Championships driving Pair Ponies and Four in Hand of Ponies. She drove her 4 Dartmoor ponies to numerous wins at all the major events at the time and they were affectionately known as “The Fleas”. She also competed at the 1997 Royal Windsor Horse Show in Windsor, England where she placed 3rd.

In addition to be a top level competitor, Muffy was a USEF Combined Driving Judge, USEF Plea;sure Driving Judge, ADS Combined Driving Judge, British Driving Society Light Harness horse instructor and an Evaluator for the Carriage Association of America’s Driver Proficiency Programs. She excelled in educating people to drive and was a sought-after clinician around the country.
