On February 14, 2023, Mayrant Alexander Lojewski, the loving wife of Joseph (Joe) D. Lojewski, passed away at their home surrounded by family. Mayrant was born on March 13th 1924 at the University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia, and the third child of Myrtie Bryan and David Lawrence Alexander. She attended Aiken County public schools and graduated from Aiken High School in the class of 1941. She attended a year at Winthrop College. When World War II broke out, she returned home and supported the war effort by working in the Office of Price Administration created by President Roosevelt. There she issued various rationing options that included those for gasoline and tires. Later she worked for Aiken County Library and Farmers and Merchants Bank. In 1957 Mayrant and Joe were married in Aiken. Joe, originally from Utica, NY was a chemical engineer with the DuPont company assigned to the Savannah River Plant. They lived in Wilmington, DE, Tennessee, California, Maryland, and Ohio where he worked at various DuPont pigment operations. When they retired in 1986, they moved back to Aiken from Wilmington, DE. They eventually settled at the home they built in Woodside Plantation where they both enjoyed gardening and Joe especially enjoyed playing golf. They were members of the Episcopal Church of the Ridge, Trenton, SC She is survived by her husband Joe of 66 years and also by her sister-in-law Amelia Townsend Alexander. She was predeceased by her brothers, David L. Alexander, and William “Bill” R. Alexander, and her sister Mary Dean Williamson (Stanley). Though she never had children of her own she cherished and loved the children of her brother and sister as if they were her own, including the many great and great great nieces and nephews. The children of her sister and brother include Mary Macmillan (Michael), Stan Williamson (Emma Joyce), David Williamson (Linda), Richard Alexander (Stella), Amelia A. Skipper (Dock), David L. Alexander (Joan), and Pam Augspurger (Mark). A Celebration of Life for Mayrant will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Episcopal Church of the Ridge, Trenton, SC, 212 Church St., Trenton, SC, with Reverend David Thompson officiating. A private interment will be held in Bethany Cemetery in Aiken. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Episcopal Church of the Ridge, P.O. Box 206, Trenton, SC 29847.
