July 6, 1924 — April 29, 2017

AIKEN, SC – Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Barton-Barton, 92, entered into rest Saturday, April 29, 2017 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Olis Davis Barton, Sr. for 64 years and was a native of Aiken.Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Davis Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Rusty Rodgers, Davey Barton, Carl Proffitt, Brian Valentine and Ryan and Dusty Rayos. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her UDC, DAR and Col. Dames Chapters.She was the daughter of the late Henry Frederick Barton and Minnie Lee Moseley Barton. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Verdery B. Kirkland, Beatrice B. Turbyfill, Henry Elton Barton, Marie B. Hankinson, Myrtle B. Gunter and Catherine Barton.Survivors include her daughters, Ann B. (Lt. Col. Rt. Bruce) Hannan, Sarah Lula Barton; son, Rev. Olis Davis (Jeanette) Barton, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Lisa B. Valentine, Davey Barton, Mitzi Rodgers, Carl Proffitt, Ryan and Dusty Rayos; 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.Mrs. Barton was a 1943 graduate of Aiken High School and retired from E.I. DuPont de Nemours SRP after 25 years of service. She was a member of Aiken Community Church and a former member of the Trenton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jefferson Davis chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Henry Tyler chapter of Colonial Dames of XVII Century, Mayflower Society, Aiken-Barnwell Genealogical Society, Aiken Historical Society, The Beech Island Historical Society and the Daughters of Indian Wars.Her hobbies were working with her flowers, painting in oils and watercolors, ceramics and genealogy. She wrote the book of her family history, “A Family Tree” Barton-Gingrey-Brown-Moseley. Mrs. Barton also wrote two poems, “My Genealogy” and “A Family Tree”.Memorial contributions may be directed to Aiken Community Church, PO Box 1175, Aiken, SC 29802.
