AIKEN, SC - Mildred Rouse Smith Schilling went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 5 2021. She was surrounded by her beloved children.
She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Marion & Mildred Smith (deceased) and grew up in Hopkins, SC.
Mildred went to nursing school at Columbia Hospital and became an RN. Most of her nursing career was spent in Aiken at The Old County Hospital and Aiken Regional Medical Center on the Pediatric floor.
She married the love of her life, John H Schilling in 1947 and they had seven children.
Mildred was involved at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, was a school nurse volunteer, a cub scout leader, a member of the Roadrunners Camping Club, and of course, raising her 7 children.
She was one of six children, two of whom are still living, Jean Smith (sister) and Jesse (Debbie) Smith (brother).
She had 7 children, one who preceded her in death, John H Schilling Jr. and six surviving children, Terry Schilling, Becky Hollins, Debbie (Billy) Byrd, Andrew Schilling, Mary Anne (Rick) Stalvey, and Pattie Walker.
She also had nine grandchildren, Allison, Jillian, Joshua, Tracie, Ben, Rebecca, Isabella, Jake, & Connor.
Eleven great-grandchildren, Spike, Maggie, Jude, Brycen, Delvin Jr, Tatiana, Mariah, Zachariah, Hollie, Skye, Dezaray; and one great-great-grandson, Jeremiah.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday morning, September 11th at 11 o’clock with visitation from 9:30 until 11:00 at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN (stjude.org) or New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Aiken (ncpcaiken.org).
