Myrtle Irene Garlinger

Mrs. Myrtle Irene Garlinger, 97, passed away peacefully Monday, September 27, 2021 at Hitchcock Place, Aiken, SC. Mrs. Garlinger was born in Hollis, New York to Charles and Ida Hennings, she graduated from The Mary Lewis Academy in 1942, and began her secretarial career in New York City. Myrtle met John H. Garlinger, Jr. during the early days of television at WOR-TV, New York. They were married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in September, 1945. They had two children, John C. Garlinger and Barbara E. Garlinger, and in 1950 settled in East Meadow, Long Island. Myrtle and John remained in East Meadow until their retirement in 1983 when they moved to Aiken, SC, where their daughter was living. Their Aiken years were their happiest. They were active members of the Aiken community and took advantage of all that the Houndslake Villas and Aiken had to offer. Myrtle I. Garlinger is survived by her son, John Charles (Linda) Garlinger of Beaufort, SC and her daughter, Barbara Garlinger of Aiken, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John H. Garlinger, Jr., her parents, and her brother, George Hennings. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Reverend John B. Engwall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The burial will be private at The National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
