Nina T. Szymonski

AIKEN, SC – NINA T. SZYMONSKI, 79, widow of Dr. Steve Szymonski, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. A native of Neenah, WI, Nina was the daughter of the late Herbert and Rosemary McIntyre Thermansen.  She graduated nursing school from St. Mary’s in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Steve.  She was a registered nurse.  They lived all over the world while he served as a physician in the Army.  After retiring from Ft. Gordon, they moved to Aiken in 1977 where Dr. Z, as many knew him, became active in the medical community and established Family MedCenter in 1982.  Nina was an avid golfer in earlier years and was a former member of Houndslake Country Club.  She was a voracious reader and enjoyed sewing and knitting.  She was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Survivors include two children, Suzanne Boozer, Windsor, Stan Szymonski, Aiken; four grandchildren, Steven Guinn, Thomas Guinn, Christina Watson, Zachary Watson; a great-grandson, Hunter Guinn; five siblings, Judith Brod (Bob), Kennesaw, GA, Mary Miller (Mike), Ringgold, GA, Mark Thermansen (Kandi), South Burlington, VT, Peter Thermansen (Martha), Milwaukee, WI, Amy Bruner (Scott), Seneca, SC and her special friend and buddy, Beth Johnson, Aiken. A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon, June 26th at 2 o’clock in Calvary Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Nina’s Life at 3 o’clock at Trinity on Laurens.
