Patrick John Frenchick, son of George and Rose Frenchick, passed away suddenly on March 15, 2022 at his home in Aiken, South Carolina. Pat, as he was known by his friends and family, was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1953. As a young boy, growing up in Wisconsin, Pat loved to visit his grandparents’ farm. This love of farm life stayed with him throughout his life and led to fulfilling the dream of the horse farm that he built together with his wife Doris for their retirement. There, Pat spent many happy hours, over the past years, working with the horses and maintaining the farm grounds.
Growing up in Wisconsin, Pat was an avid Boy Scout and an excellent athlete where he excelled in football, basketball and track. A National Science Foundation Program he attended while in high school, inspired his career choice and lifelong passion for science. Pat went on study at Hamline University, in Minnesota where he also played college football. After completing an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, Pat went on to receive his PHD in immunology from the University of Minnesota
Pat enjoyed a long and rewarding career in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. His steadfast devotion to science brought him much success working for a range of major companies like Pfizer, Smith Kline Beacham, Boehringer Ingelheim and RRD International, just to name a few. Pat enjoyed travelling and his career took him to numerous assignments not only in the US and Canada but also in Europe. It was during his time in Germany that Pat met his soul mate, Doris Westhoff, while working at Boehringer Ingelheim and they married in 2007 in Ingelheim, Germany. The years together with Doris were filled with further travel to favorite destinations including National Parks, wine countries or far off destinations in Europe, Costa Rica, South Africa, Australia and China. In fact, Pat nearly reached his goal to visit all of the 50 US States.
Pat had a few more passions in life beyond science. A favorite pastime was cheering on his beloved Wisconsin Badgers, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Pat’s deep knowledge and enjoyment of food and wine was surpassed by few. Special evenings, hosted by Pat, featuring good friends, food and wine will be missed by many but most of all, Pat’s caring spirit, his constant support and generosity will be missed.
Pat is survived by his wife Doris Westhoff, Aiken, SC, his mother, Rose Frenchick, Eau Claire, WI, George (Lynda) Frenchick Jr., Paynesville, MN, Rob (Lynne) Frenchick, Hayward, WI and Mike (Patty) Frenchick, Gainesville, VA. He was preceded in death by his father George Frenchick Sr.
