Peggy Floella Ivey Kitchings

AIKEN, SC - Peggy Floella Ivey Kitchings, 92, died peacefully at home Monday, October 23, 2023, in Aiken, SC. 

Peggy was born May 5, 1931, in Graniteville, SC to the late Lee and Effie Ivey.  She is predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Ivey, Jr.   

Peggy is survived by her husband of 71 years, James Albert "Bimbo" Kitchings, her sons David Kitchings (Christina) of Orangeburg, SC and Duane Kitchings (Archer) of St, Matthews, SC.  Four grandchildren Hannah Till (Martin) of Lexington, SC, Rachel Lartigue (Jack) of Memphis, TN, James Kitchings of West Columbia, SC  and Josh Kitchings of St. Matthews, SC.  Three great grandchildren Jacob Till and Bennett Till of Lexington, SC and Ray Lartigue of Memphis, TN as well as a number of nieces and nephews. 

Peggy began her career at Owens Corning as a secretary and retired from SCE&G. She was an avid gardener and loved taking care of her yard and plants.  Peggy enjoyed reading and cross-stitch.   She was very active in her sons’ early years by volunteering as a Cub Scout leader and attending numerous sporting and musical events.  Until the last few years, she and James spent much of their time traveling in their motor home, wintering in Florida.  Over the years, they visited all 50 states, Europe and South America. 

A private service will be held.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at 502 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
