Ridge Spring, SC - Perry Battle was born in Montmorenci, South Carolina on June 10, 1941, to the late P.J. and Ethel Battle.  He passed away suddenly on 14 January 2022 in Ridge Spring, S.C.   Perry leaves to grieve him, his loving wife Bridget Davis Battle; Sisters-in-law Joyce Davis, Columbia, S.C., and Angelin (Joseph) Butler, Ridge Springs, S.C.; 5 children Joseph Haskins, Cheryl Battle, James Battle Jr., Kris Simmons (Leroy) and Donna Battle, all of Wyandanch New York. One sister Blanche (Battle) Riley, of Beech Island, S.C., Seven grandchildren James Battle, Jasmine Battle, Jessica Little, Kevin Little Jr, Devin Battle, Anthony Battle and Donna Battle and 8 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He had also shared a lifelong friendship with Mr. Dallas Frazier.

He is predeceased by his mother Ethel M. Andrews Battle, father P.J. Battle and 7 sisters Irene Trowell, Celestine Green, Ora Lee Charity, Rosa Lee Toole, Mary Lou Toole, Ethel Mae Lloyd, and Shirley Lloyd; 2 brothers Johnny “K.D.” Battle and P.J. Battle Jr.

He spent much of his life in the town of Wyandanch, New York and had been a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  Perry served honorably for 6 years in the United States Army from 1959 – 1965.  He returned to New York and for a time worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he relocated to the town of Hempstead/State of New York and worked as a head diesel mechanic prior to his final retirement.  He relocated to Aiken, S.C in 1987.

Perry, affectionately known as “Jimmy” and “Pee Wee” throughout his life was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed cruising.  He was a member of the local Augusta Corvette Club Pride Riders.  The Corvette Club participated in many community activities such car shows, turkey giveaways, various parades and fund-raising events for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Black History and Dr. MLK celebrations.  

He was most certainly beloved by all his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 PM Thursday, January 20, 2022, and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Shellhouse Funeral Home chapel.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
