Aiken, SC – Mr. Philip Charles Stack, 81, loving husband of Anne Albright Kelty, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021.
Phil was born in McGregor, IA, a son of the late Gerald Thomas and Helen Mary Hinsch Stack. He served in the US Navy, and later in the US Naval Reserves. He graduated from the University of Iowa, and later received his master’s degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He began his career as a high school math teacher but joined IBM in 1967 where he held many positions in technical, marketing, and management consulting roles. After retiring from IBM, Phil started his own consulting business, Stack & Co., using the same name of his grandfather’s business. Closing that business when Anne retired, they moved to Aiken, SC where he was active in the Cedar Creek community, St Augustine’s of Canterbury Episcopal Church and various other volunteer activities. Phil was a worldwide traveler, an avid golfer, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and an Iowa Hawkeye football fanatic.
In addition to his wife, Anne, Phil is survived by daughter, Kristin Hale, Cedar Rapids, IA; son, Kyle (Leah Hager) Stack, Ft. Collins, CO; stepdaughters, Paige (Jeff) Merten, West Chester, PA, Allison (Tim) Kelty-Roach, Greenville, SC; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (Hildburg) Stack, Sanford, FL, E. Gifford (Sylvia Swanson) Stack, Caswell Beach, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Stack Basler.
Phil was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
To celebrate Phil's life, a visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC. Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, the family has requested that masks be worn for the visitation. A private service will be held at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church the following morning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aiken Women’s Heart Board, P.O. Box 5211, Aiken, SC 29804, or to a charity of choice.
