AIKEN, SC – REBECCA “BECKY” RAY LOCK, 73, widow of David M. Lock, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 following an extended illness.
A native of Mount Dora, FL, Becky was a daughter of the late Jefferson G. and Betty Bouterse Ray. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and had lived in Aiken since 1975. She taught physical education at Mead Hall for 25 years. Becky was the former owner of Lock Stock & Barrel Clothing Store in downtown Aiken. She was active in the Aiken community and will be remembered for her face painting during Aiken’s Makin for many years. She was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Sunshine Garden Club. Becky may be best remembered as the founder of the local chapter of Project Graduation in 1996 following the death of her oldest son, David Lock, Jr. She later survived a debilitating brain hemorrhage. Becky and her late husband moved to Beaufort, SC in 2002. She had a deep faith and authored the book “Journey to Christ”, an inspirational book in which the proceeds went to a fund for mother’s who have lost children. She hosted an annual retreat for many of these mothers at her beach house at Edisto for a number of years. She returned to the Aiken area in 2017 due to declining health.
Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Lock Crouch (Joshua), Aiken; her son, George Lock (Joanne Fenstermacher), Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Emery and Ria Crouch and Aiden Lock; three brothers, Jefferson Ray (Pamela), Mount Dora, FL, Chris Ray (Cindy), Sanford, FL, Michael Ray, Crestview, FL. In addition to her parents, husband and oldest son, Becky was preceded in death by a sister, Bettye Ann Ray.
The funeral service will be Saturday morning, February 13th at 10 o’clock at New Covenant Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Larry Gilpin officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
