Richard "Dick" Robert Bowers

Mr. Richard R. (Dick) Bowers, 91, of Kalmia Landing, died March 27, 2025 at Anchor Post Acute.

Funeral services will be held at St. Johns Methodist Church in Aiken on Saturday, July 26th at 11 o’clock. The Revs. Dr. W. Timothy McClendon and Grayson “Butch” Blackwell will officiate. Burial will be private in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Bowers was a son of the late Robert M. and Kathryn L. Bowers. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1955.

He was a Certified Health Physicist who worked for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Site from 1955 to 1963, for two utility nuclear power plants, and a nuclear consulting firm. He retired from employment with Halliburton NUS in Aiken in 1997. Mr. Bowers was very active in the Health Physics Certification program over most of his career. In 1991 he became the third person honored with the William McAdams award for outstanding service to the American Board of Health Physics.

Mr. Bowers was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where he was also a member of the fellowship Sunday School Class.

He was an active resident of the Kalmia Landing Retirement Community and served as a director, treasurer and on several committees in that community.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marilyn Jane Bowers. He is survived by two sons, Bryan Richard (Jillienne) of Adrian, Michigan, and Bruce Eric (Veronica) of Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Lois Ann LaVie (David) of Wilder, Vermont, and Linda Sue Ulrich (Jeff) of Vero Beach, Florida; and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Aiken.
