Richard Daniel Findley

Richard Daniel “Danny” Findley, 75, of Gilbert, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters on September 3, 2023.  He was the husband of Nancy Fairbank Findley.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 5th at 11am at Bethany Cemetery, 238 Hampton Avenue NW, in Aiken, South Carolina.  Arrangements are being  provided by Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home in Aiken, South Carolina.  

Danny was born in Montgomery, Alabama as the oldest of four sons of Jim and Etta Findley.  Danny enjoyed his early years in Sylacauga, Alabama, before moving to Aiken, South Carolina for his senior year of high school.  Danny graduated from Aiken High School and attended the University of South Carolina, where he received a business degree in 1971.

Danny met his wife, Nancy, while attending the University of South Carolina, and they married in 1971.  Danny worked for State Farm Insurance for 42 years, and he retired in 2012 having previously served as an Auto Claim Team Manager for State Farm Insurance.  Danny and Nancy enjoyed their early years together in Aiken raising their two daughters, Beth and Kathryn, before moving to Columbia in 1986.

Danny was an avid Gamecock fan who faithfully attended football, basketball and baseball games for many years.  He especially enjoyed trips to the SEC baseball tournament back in his home state of Alabama.  Danny loved spending time with family and friends at Lake Murray and Edisto Beach, and he never met a dog he didn’t like.

Danny is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Gilbert, South Carolina; daughters, Beth Montgomery (Michael) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Kathryn Beckenhauer (Ted) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; grandchildren, Mary Hall Montgomery, Cora Montgomery, Anne Beckenhauer, and John Beckenhauer; brothers, Rusty Findley (Donna) of Aiken, South Carolina, Michael “Mike” Findley (Molly) of Jackson, Tennessee, and Clay Findley (Ruth) of Crested Butte, Colorado.  Danny was predeceased by his parents and a very special uncle, Arthur Houghton of Pensacola, Florida.
