Richard Lee "Rick" Ford

OSLO, NORWAY - Richard (Rick) Lee Ford, 73, beloved husband of Margaret (Peggy) Ford, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in Oslo, Norway following a brief illness. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas (T.C.) Ford, his daughter in-law, Helga Toender, and his two grandchildren, Aune Toender-Ford, and Tellef Toender-Ford. He is also survived by his brother, Gene S. Ford (Kimberly) and sister-in-law, Paige Houchins (Luke), two nieces, Sarah Ford Moore, and Rachel Houchins and many other relatives and friends.  

Rick was born August 4, 1950, in Bethesda, Maryland to Wilma Sandberg Ford and Maurice Eugene Ford. He was raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland and graduated from the University of Richmond and then from the Virginia Commonwealth University with degrees in English and Mass Communications, respectively. He worked for the Department of Defense as a writer for Army Logistician Magazine, and then in 1989 joined the Office of External Affairs with the Department of Energy at Savannah River Site.  

Following his retirement from the Department of Energy, Rick formed Palmetto Partnership Consulting Services, LLC, and enjoyed working with numerous companies, including Engineered Resources, AECOM, and Amentum. He also enjoyed helping edit books written by his friends. He was a community volunteer but most frequently seen volunteering for Children’s Place, Inc. 

A memorial service will be held on November 1, 2023, at 3:00 at First Baptist Church of Aiken, officiated by Rev. John Carroll and Dr. Fred Andrea. A family visitation and Celebration of Life will follow the service at Newberry Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Children’s Place, Inc.
