RICHARD JOHN SHALER, 81, husband of the late Barbara Kay Shaler, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in his home with his family by his side.
A native of Saginaw, MI, Richard was a son of the late Joseph and Madeline Harvey Shaler. He grew up and was educated in Michigan before joining the Army. After his discharge he and Barbara moved to West Palm Beach, FL in 1976 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. After his retirement, he and Barbara moved to Aiken in 2007 where they became active parishioners of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
Surviving is his daughter, Susan Shaler, Aiken; grandchildren, Sam Shaler, Katie McCurry, Nicholas Shaler, Zakree Shaler, Eric Rancke; great grandchildren, Addalyn and Lucas Shaler, Samuel and Logan Rancke, Kash and Atlas Shaler, Matti McCurry; his brother, Harvey “Butch” Shaler of Texas; daughters-in-law, Mary Shaler, Indianapolis, IN, Jill Shaler, Palm Coast, FL.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Joseph Shaler and Patrick Shaler.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday afternoon, September 5th at 2 o’clock at The Old St. Mary’s on Park Avenue. He will be inurned with his wife in the St. Mary’s Columbarium in October.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Clair’s Home (stclairshomesc.org) .
