Aiken – Reverend Richard Murray Swift, 77, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Richard was born in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Walter and Beatrice Smith Swift. He was a graduate of Ottawa University and received his Master’s Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1969-1972.
After his time in the military, he accepted Christ and began his life of ministry. Richard and Laurie served in many churches, eventually leading them to the foundation of Cedar Creek Church.
Richard was not just a leader, but a shepherd to us all—a guiding light whose unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication laid the foundation of Cedar Creek Church and touched countless lives. He led with a servant's heart, always pointing us toward the love and grace of Jesus Christ. The legacy he leaves behind is one of deep faith, enduring hope, and boundless love.
He is survived by his daughter, Sophie Swift (Chad) Kelly, Aiken; his son, Matthew Swift, Lexington; grandchildren Chase Kelly, Ashlyn Kelly, Emerson Swift, Charlotte Swift; and a sister, Judy Short, Cambridge, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Laurie Hale Swift; and a brother, George Swift.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, August 19, 2024, at Cedar Creek Church, Banks Mill Rd., with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating. The service will be livestreamed at the following link: https://control.resi.io/webplayer/video.html?id=cae65b89-2740-4fc6-bc6a-07145d3692ba
