AIKEN, SC - Richard A. Wenzel of Aiken, South Carolina passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his residence.
Dick was born on March 8, 1941 in Utica, New York. While growing up in Clinton, New York he was an avid football and hockey player. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1959.
In 1963 he graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where he played Brown Varsity Hockey. He received his Master of Business Administration degree from Dartmouth’s College Tuck School of Business in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1965.
His career in marketing spread over 30 years and included working in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He retired from the Plastics Division of Mobil Chemical headquarters in Pittsford, New York in 1996.
Following retirement he enjoyed travel with his wife, June, and many woodworking and art projects. His large solid cherry dining room table was one of his favorite projects. He also enjoyed oil painting.
Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Hughes Wenzel, of Aiken, South Carolina, his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cheryl Wenzel of Jacksonville, Florida, his grandchildren, Allison and Colin Wenzel also of Jacksonville, Florida and his brother, Douglas Wenzel of Clinton, New York. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, David Michael Wenzel of Iowa City, Iowa.
Always willing to lend a hand, Dick enjoyed volunteering especially with children at Christmastime and with Catholic Charities and the American Heart Association.
In lieu of flowers and if so deserved, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund in his memory.
A funeral Mass will be scheduled at a future time.
