Robert Logan Bailey

AIKEN, SC - Robert Logan Bailey peacefully received from Jesus his gift of eternal life at home on October 27, 2017, surrounded by family and close friends. Bob was born in Montgomery, Alabama on December 17, 1937 and received his early education in the public schools of Montgomery, Charleston and Barnwell, SC. He earned his degree in industrial management/engineering at Clemson University in 1962.      His career began at Utica Tool Company and Smith-Corona Corporations in Orangeburg; he spent twenty years with Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel in Columbia, and retired from Westinghouse Savannah River Site. He also was an adjunct instructor at Orangeburg-Calhoun and Midlands Technical Colleges.      Bob was a son of William Logan and Berta Peak Bailey (both deceased). He was a devoted husband for fifty-six years to Belva Bronson Bailey and a loving father to Barbra Bailey Hunter of Chapin, SC and Robert Logan Bailey, Jr. (deceased). Five precious grandchildren called him Grampy and they were the lights of his life: Parker Davis, Logan Bailey, Lawson Davis, Harrison Davis and Eason Davis all of Chapin. He is survived by a brother, James S. Bailey, Charleston, SC, son-in-law Michael D. Hunter of Chapin and daughter-in-law, Deanna V. Bailey of Chapin. He is also survived by six step grandchildren; John David, Blake, Bayly, Ellis, Lillie, and Cate Hunter of Chapin.      Bob was a man of great faith and lived what he believed. He instilled the love of Jesus in his children. A member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, he has served previously as a deacon, member and chair of Joy Seekers, deacon nominating committee, church nominating committee, and Faith Explorers Sunday school class. Memories of service at St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia for over twenty years provided great joy for Bob.      One of the greatest fans of Tiger football, he attended games for as long as his health permitted and was an active member of IPTAY. He was a Boston Red Sox fan since childhood and played quite a bit of baseball himself. He lived to see both these teams win national championships. Bob loved golf and played in many golf groups over the years. He and Belva enjoyed their many trips to Edisto Beach, which they called their place of renewal.        In the years before retirement, he volunteered with Royal Ambassadors, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement and was an active Lions Club member. Following retirement, he worked with Senior Net at USCA and Habitat for Humanity.      Bob's quick wit, happy smile, love of life, family and friends, tenacious determination to live life to the fullest despite his long illnesses are things that will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We thank God for bringing him into our lives, for we are better persons for having known and loved him.      Our thanks go out to all his caretakers who were so faithful and loving, to the physicians who made good choices on his behalf, to UEW Healthcare, and to Trinity Hospice, and to the wonderful friends and family who stood by us all these years.      A Celebration of Bob Bailey's life will be held at Aiken's First Baptist Church on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Visitation with the family will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Services begin at 1:30 in the sanctuary, followed by graveside services at the Barnwell County Cemetery (Highway 278 by the Barnwell Airport) at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Marshall Cain, Raleigh Daniel, William Finley, Ken Hall, Curtis Holland, Dr. Don Pennington, Philip Richardson, and Dr. John Timmerman. Honorary Pallbearers will be James DePalma and members of the Faith Seekers Sunday School class.      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aiken's First Baptist Church, P. O.
