AIKEN, SC - Mr. Robert "Bobby" Merrel Cook, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, June 12th surrounded by family.
A lifelong resident of Aiken, Bobby was a son of the late Harry W. Cook and Kathleen Collier. He graduated from Aiken High School in 1949 and from Clemson College in 1953 with a degree in Textile Engineering. Afterward, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and then went to work for the Graniteville Company for 41 years before his retirement. He was deeply passionate about his community and was a former member of the Aiken Jaycees. He announced AHS football games for many years, and was an active member of the American Legion Post 26 and Aiken’s First Baptist Church. Anyone who knew Bobby knew he was an avid Clemson fan. He was a Clemson IPTAY member for many years, as well as an Aiken area representative. Not only was he devoted to his daughter, he spent his entire life helping and serving others. He never knew a stranger. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cook; brother, Richard W. Cook (Jean); brother-in-law, Frank E. Taylor (Bonnie); nephews, Russell F. Cook (Eliza), Robert M. Cook, II (Lisa), Charles L. Taylor (Dana), niece Jennifer T. Waddell; several grand-nephews and grand-nieces, plus many cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved grand-dog Cupcake.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Prince Cook; sister-in-law, Linda Prince Taylor; and a grand-nephew Robert M. Cook, III (Trey). He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, June 17th from 5 until 7 o'clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home on East Pine Log Road in Aiken. Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning, June 18th at 11 o’clock at Montmorenci First Baptist Church Cemetery.
