Robert H. Griffith III “Bobby”, 72 beloved husband of Loretta Griffith, passed away peacefully Friday March 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Baltimore, Bobby was the son of Robert H. Griffith Jr. and Dorothy Ann Griffith.
He was a locomotive engineer for Amtrak where he met his future wife, Loretta. He was her instructor and taught her to operate the train. Bobby operated the Washington, DC to New York route. He was commuting to Washington on 9/11 when the planes crashed into the Twin Towers. Once at work that morning, Bob proudly volunteered to operate a train loaded with much-needed medical supplies to New York, that day. This significant moment in his career was marked by a profound sense of duty and an unforgettable experience of being escorted by an armed military helicopter.
Bobby retired in 2010 and moved with Loretta to a farm in Aiken SC with their horses and dogs. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed music, singing and playing guitar, especially the Beatles. The song playing in video “If I Needed Someone” was recorded by Bobby, his son Bobby and friend Bob. He loved to dance and was a Country Line Dance Instructor. His quick wit and humor was loved by everyone.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Loretta, is his mother, Dorothy; sister, Linda and husband Mike; son, Bobby and wife Mary; daughter, Cindy and husband John; five grandchildren, Samantha, James, Bo, Tristian and Cameron; two great-granddaughters, Genevieve and Viviana.
