Robert L. Scott

October 14, 1936 — February 5, 2023

AIKEN, SC - Robert Leo Scott, “Scotty” age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Aiken, SC on Sunday, February 5th, 2023. Born in Nokomise, Illinois on October 14th, 1936 to the late Walter and Gertrude Scott, he was the oldest of four children. Scotty served in the United States Airforce from 1956-1963 as a radar operator and was assigned to the 685th ACW squadron. On May 21st, 1958, Scotty married Dorothy (Dale) and together they had three children.  

After he was honorably discharged from the service, Scotty began a long-lasting career in the profession of Quality Assurance with the Aerospace and Missile Industry where he had the opportunity to work on projects with McDonald Douglass Company, Lockhead Propulsion Company and Westinghouse Electrical Corporation. In 1974 he started with Bechtel Power Corporation which eventually moved his family to Aiken, SC where he retired in 2004.  

In the late 80’s, Scotty pursued his passion of woodworking and opened “Simply Country”, where he built beautiful furniture with his family. When he wasn’t in his workshop, Scotty enjoyed bass fishing and playing his guitar. 

In his retirement, he devoted his time to serving at Christ Central Ministries, his church family at Talatha Baptist and the love of his life, Dottie. He was a respected leader and a faithful servant of the Lord.   

Scotty is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; his three children, Deborah Birmingham (Jon), Sherry (MK) and Rob (Dasha); his six grandchildren, Jamie Coomes (Holly), Justin Coomes (Lauren), John Coomes (Randi), Adam, Ashley Porchetta (Joey), and Austin Coomes (Anna); his twelve great-grandchildren, Hayden, Jamie Jr, Ryder, Kylee, Harleigh, Paisleigh, Nevaeh, Saylor, John, Bowen, Goldie, and Sawyer; his brother David Scott and his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty and brother Raymond.  

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 9th at 2:00pm at Talatha Baptist Church.  

Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
