Mr. Ronald J. Albertelli went to his heavenly home Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Born in Winchester, Massachusetts on 8-25-44, he moved to Aiken, SC in 1987 to manage the R E Phelon plant. While singing in the Living Christmas Tree at Millbrook Baptist, he met his future wife. They dated for 24 years before marrying on 5-1-2010. Starting in 1999, together they developed the live mascot program for the University of South Carolina, Sir Big Spur. Ron’s “engineering” mind, intelligence, creativity, kindness, and showmanship allowed Sir Big Spur to become a fixture at USC sporting events. More importantly, Ron became a true southern gentleman, a man of faith and a giving, caring friend to people from all walks of life and had an affinity for children and they for him. Ever the handyman (although not formally educated) he could fix anything and shared that God-given talent with anyone in need and was especially helpful to his church home.
From the time of his diagnosis in 2010 until his death, Mr. Albertelli was a favorite of the medical community because of his kindness and non-complaining, accepting attitude. The wife and family commend and thank Dr. Anand Jillella and the staff of AU for his care for the past 14 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary F. Snelling; two brothers John Albertelli and Kenny (Christie) Albertelli; one sister Sandra Krauss; two daughters Cory (Danny) Bradham and Aimee (Tim) Durden; and three grandsons Nathan Bradham, Markus Bradham and Caleb Durden.
A service will be held at Talatha Baptist Church, 361 Talatha Road, Aiken SC on Saturday morning, July 20th at 11 o'clock. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 o'clock.
