Ruth Banks Marsh, 100, of Aiken, SC passed away on June 13, 2022 at her daughter's home in Aiken, SC. Ruth was born and grew up in Milledgeville, GA to the late Carrie Gaither and Oscar Orilious Otho Banks, the youngest of seven children. She received her bachelor's degree in art from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA (now Georgia State College & University) and furthered her education at the University of Georgia School of Art (now the Lamar Dodd School of Art), the University of Colorado at Boulder, Appalachian State University, and the University of South Carolina at Aiken. During the Second World War, Ruth taught instrument flying to pilots at the Naval Air Station in Atlanta and also worked for the American Red Cross. It was during this time that she met her husband, Tom Marsh, who was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Following the Second World War, she was employed as a social worker in Colorado. After moving to Aiken, Ruth taught art and elementary education as a classroom educator. She was active in the League of Women Voters and St. John's United Methodist Church of Aiken. She also served as a cub scout den mother and girl scout troop leader. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Charles Thomas Marsh, Sr., her son Charles Thomas Marsh, Jr., her parents, six siblings, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter Camille (John) McCall of Aiken, her two grandsons Marsh McCall of Boca Raton, FL and Perry McCall of New York, NY, and several nieces and nephews. A private memorial service was held at St. John's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O.
