SARA HAMPTON PATTERSON, 93, widow of James D. Patterson, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Brookdale of Anderson.
A native of Clay County, AL, Sara was a daughter of the late Homer and Lessie Carpenter Hampton. She grew up in Alabama and attended Jacksonville State University. She and James moved to Allendale in 1951 when James began his career with DuPont at the Savannah River Site. They moved to Aiken in 1956. She retired from J. B. White. Sara was a long-time member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church. She volunteered in the church office after her retirement. She also volunteered with Meals of Wheels. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Debbie Jones, Anderson, SC; daughter-in-law, Pamela Patterson, Green Creek, NC; grandchildren, Brendan Palmer (Antoinette), Adam Roach (Florence), Selena Patterson (Kayla), Alicia Wallace (Greg), Ian Patterson; great-grandchildren, Eli Roach, Eris Palmer, Loren Roach, Selah Palmer, Luciana Palmer. In addition to her husband and parents, Sara was preceded in death by her son, Ron Patterson, infant son, Jerry Wayne Patterson; sisters, Pauline Patterson, Ruby Osborne.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, January 25th beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock with The Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
