Sarah Fowler Procter

AIKEN, SC - SARAH FOWLER PROCTER was called to her heavenly home on December 24, 2020.

     Born in Kelton, SC (Union County) on October 13, 1924.  She was the daughter Arthur and Estelle Lybrand Fowler.  Sarah was educated at Kelly Pinckney High School in Kelton.  She received her degree in Elementary Education from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC.  She taught school in North Carolina, Union County and retired from the Aiken County Public Schools after 20 years of dedicated service.  Sarah was a member of the South Carolina Teachers Association and the Federal Education Association for several years. 

     She was married to the late Arthur Procter, Sr. and travelled abroad with him during his military duty.  Sarah was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Aiken and taught primary Sunday School class for several years.  Sarah was an avid golfer and also enjoyed ceramics, china collecting, painting, crocheting, reading and shopping.

     Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and a daughter, Pamela P. Oats.

     She is survived by a devoted son, Arthur “Artie” Procter, Jr. of Aiken; a special niece, Jackie Black of Beaufort, SC, niece, Karen (Brad) Stevens of Pauline, SC and a special friend, Mary Ann Kavanaugh of Aiken.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation (stjude.org).

     A private graveside service will be held Monday, December 28^th in Aiken Memorial Gardens with The Rev. W. Timothy McClendon officiating.

     The family is most appreciative of the staff and caregivers at Benton House of Aiken where Sarah resided for 3 years and a special thanks to E. Jones, personal care assistant for Mrs. Procter.
