Shirley Ann Brown

AIKEN, SC - Ms. Shirley Ann Brown, 79, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 surrounded by her family.   Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Cumberland AME Church with The Rev. Alvin Larke, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Jessamine Gardens.   Born in Aiken, Ms. Brown was a daughter of the late James C. and Ruth Small Brown. Ms. Brown graduated from Martha Schofield High School in 1958. She attended SC State University receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Education going on to receive her Masters in Library Science at Atlanta University. Ms. Brown spent her career working as a librarian and media specialist at SC State University.   Ms. Brown is survived by her two sisters, Geraldine Gordon (Charles) Williams, and  Cassandra Holloway of Aiken; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Brown; brother-in-law, Robert W. Dawkins,  nieces and nephews, Anita and Marcus Brown, Rosalyn D. Loury, Margo Thomas, Sherita Holloway, and Alycia Cummings.     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Doretha D. Brown, Geneva B. Dawkins and two brothers, Melvin J. and Marvin J. Brown.   Memorials may be made to the Cumberland AME Church Building Fund, PO Box 1091, Aiken, SC 29802.   Friends may call at the residence of her sister, Geraldine Williams at 717 Wickham Dr., Graniteville, SC 29829   The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 18 from 5:00–7:00 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC 29801.
