AIKEN, SC – SHIRLEY ANN DeHART, 79, widow of Robert DeHart, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Shirley was born on September 17, 1941 in West Virginia to the late Herbert and Mary Tuck Reese. She started taking care of people at an early age, working in nursing homes and then going into private care. She loved every one of her patients. She was always there for her family whether for health care or if someone needed a place to stay for a while to get their feet back on the ground. Shirley loved fishing and working with flowers in her garden. She will be remembered most for her fierce love of her family, no matter how far away or how long between visits. She prayed for each and everyone and worried about them daily.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Rose; brother, Billy Reese; son-in-law, Paul Toole and the man she loved for 60 years, Robert DeHart.
She will be remembered lovingly by her daughter, Mary Ellen Smith-Toole (the late Paul) of Aiken; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris), Jeremy (Alysha), Jaselyn; her great-grandchildren, Raven (Cory), Jessup, Payton, Mason, Reagan and Brandon (Crystal); her great-great-grandchildren, Channing, Eagan, Kolton, Harmony; her remaining siblings, Marylou, Bonnie, Donna, Nancy, Sandra, Connie, Tony, Jack, Robert and Lonnie.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, March 6th beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 o’clock at the funeral home with The Rev. William Eaves officiating. Interment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
