Stella Marsee Zion

Stella Marsee Zion of Aiken died peacefully after a brief illness at Aiken Regional Medical Center on December 16, 2023.  She was born in St. Charles, Virginia on November 28, 1929 to Blevin Cicero and Opal Crider Marsee. She was the loving wife of William Arthur “Art” Zion, Sr. for 58 years, until his death in 2005.

A devoted, loving wife, mother and Mam-ma, Stella was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, the Joy Connection Group, and the Sunshine Ladies of Millbrook.  She was also very supportive of the work of the Aiken Chapter of Ex-Prisoners of War.  After raising her five children, she worked at Edwards Department Store, the Aiken Adult Development Center, and the Aiken County Treasurer’s Office.

Stella was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother, R.C. Marsee.  She is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren: Jane (Buddy) Bryant of Darlington, Mandy Bryant, Bobby (Jen) Bryant, Stella Grace and Alice Pearl; Diane (Mike) Tatum of Aiken, CJ (Emily) Driggers, Faith, Jon (Susan) Driggers, Lauren and Emmy;  Bill (Sharon) Zion of Bamberg, Amy (Hunter) Spivey, Zion, Jagger, and Levi, Billy (Caroline) Zion III, William, Luke, Bennett and Henry, Sam (Ashley) Zion, Ricki and Leo; Susan (Stuart) Adams of Chapin, Katherine (Jason) Barrett, eighteenth great-grandchild May 2024;  Bob (Libba) Zion of Johnston, Dana (Andy) Brincefield, Abby, Emma and Kaitlyn, Molly (Marc) vanNuenen, Debi Zion, mother of Dana and Molly, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Friday, December 22nd, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 p.m.  Pallbearers will be Jason Barrett, Bobby Bryant, CJ Driggers, Jon Driggers, Hunter Spivey, Billy Zion, Sam Zion, and William Zion.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 South Aiken Blvd. SE, Aiken, SC 29803 or Christ Central Aiken Ministries, 3605 Richland Avenue West, Aiken, SC 29801.  The family would like to offer their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the cardiac unit at Aiken Regional Medical Center for their loving care and support.
