Sue Ann Lynch Walke

October 13, 1942 — December 8, 2020

AIKEN, SC – SUE ANN LYNCH WALKE, 78, beloved widow of Wyndham Patteson “Pat” Walke Jr., passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Potomac, MD.
A native of Inman, SC, Sue Ann was born on October 13, 1942 to the late John Wofford Lynch and Mary Sue Johnson Fisher. She studied at Winthrop University in South Carolina, where she graduated in 1963 with a degree in Voice.
Sue Ann moved to Aiken to work as a high school music teacher in 1963. She continued to teach music to elementary school students and second grade general education for over 30 years. She took a well-deserved retirement in 1996 from Mead Hall Episcopal School in Aiken, SC.
She was a dedicated member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, playing many roles at the church over the years. She led the singing group at 4th and 5th grade Sunday school; sang soprano in the 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM choir; was co-chair of the Apple Festival; cooked in the kitchen and helped serve meals at Wednesday night dinners.
Sue Ann stayed busy, passing time with her friends and her children and grandchildren. Some of her happiest hours were spent performing in musicals at the Aiken playhouse, playing bridge in multiple groups, and traveling the world with her husband Pat to visit her children and grandchildren. She and Pat had unforgettable trips to countries including China, Russia, England, Ireland, and Scotland, as well as multiple trips around the US. Sue Ann also spent time with her children and grandchildren in France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Japan, and Colombia.
Sue Ann’s real passion was cooking for her friends and family, and hosting multiple “supper club” groups as well as the annual “Masters Party”. She was well known for making sourdough bread for her friends and family. She loved teaching her children and especially her grandchildren how to cook her special desserts and mentioned she wants to be remembered as the “cookie making grandmother”.
Survivors include two daughters, Beth (Woody) Matthews, Hartwell, GA, and Susan (Yohn Medina Vivanco) Walke, Colombo, Sri Lanka; three sons, Wyn Walke, Johnstown, CO, John (Enu Mainigi) Walke, Washington, DC, and David (Rieko) Walke, Tokyo, Japan; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Judy Lynch (Tom) Cowell, Fort Mill, SC. In addition to her parents, Sue Ann was preceded in death by her step-father, George Leland Fisher.
A private internment Service will be held on Tuesday, December 15th in Bethany Cemetery at 1:00 with The Reverends Dr. Timothy McClendon and Butch Blackwell officiating. Those who wish to pay their respects and show support to the family may line the drive of the cemetery and remain in or by their cars during the service. The service will also be live streamed online on the Shellhouse – Rivers Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/srfhandsfh .
The family plans to have a “celebration of life” memorial service at a future date in 2021 due to health-related concerns for friends, family members and guests.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to St. John’s United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29803 (stjaiken.org).
