Susan Ahlheim Palm

Aiken – Mrs. Susan Ahlheim Palm, 80, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Sue was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter and only child of the late Walter and Edna Helen Poppe Ahlheim. She received her bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA in 1964 and a Master of Arts in Religion from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, St Davids, PA in 1986. She had a 17 year teaching career in both public and Chrisitan elementary schools, retiring from Valley Forge Baptist Temple, Valley Forge, PA in 2002.

Tom and Sue met at a mutual friend’s wedding in Shillington, PA in 1965 and were married a little over a year later in July of 1966. During their 56 years of marriage, they lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Collegeville, Pennsylvania; and Aiken, South Carolina.

Sue enjoyed traveling, leading Bible studies, playing Scrabble in-person and online, bowling, and visiting her daughters and their families. She loved making her home a welcome place and showed generous hospitality.

Sue loved learning and sharing what she learned with her students, both in school and at church. Sue had a great sensitivity for people. It was important to her to make people feel included and treat people equally. She was very conscious of their feelings and made sure to give special attention to each one, including her friends, children, and grandchildren.

Sue’s faith was important to her and she strived to follow the Lord faithfully. She was active in her churches and volunteered in many roles over the years. She wanted others to know about Jesus. She also volunteered at the Christ Central Mission in Wagener for the past 10 years.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Samuel Palm; daughters, Amy Sue (Christopher) Myers, Nancy Ellen (Michael) Everest; grandchildren, Gilchrist T (Mallory) Myers, Kaitlin M Myers (Kaleb) Jones, Thomas A (Erika) Everest, Elena M Everest, and Matthias G Everest.

The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend William L Eaves II officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
